Fashion Days Zurich

Ok, If taking my camera to this show wasn't a quick crash course in speed settings, ISO settings and aperture, I don't know what was. Here are a couple of my favorites (even if they aren't perfect)! I plan to sit down and analyze what went wrong and what went right (there was way more wrong in all of the photos) and then share some of my findings soon!

I like fashion shows. Unfortunately they are very rare here.
I like these photos. What is wrong with the others?
I also use a D90, let me know if I can help you in anything.

Wow! To be honest, you look like a pro - these are some of the best photographs I have ever seen taken at a fashion show. Like something straight out of a magazine!! :)

I laughed at your holiday cup comment. Every one really is talking about them. We must not have much to get excited about these days ;)

fun feeling of being there in these pics though! awesome you get to be a part of it.

Wow, looks like you had fun! So much to learn from cameras, hey!

I'm much more into composition than all that ISO stuff (probably because I don't understand it AT ALL).
And I love the composition of that top picture. It is awesome.

Fashion shows are difficult. Everyting happens very fast, even the light changes... to take good photos it's better to change position frequently (so each one is different) and be a little bit cheeky. Technical issues are very important, it takes a lot of experience with so much contrast. I like the first photo, it's very dynamic, but I always prefer to see models face. Did you use flash?

Wow, what an experience! I have a hard time with moving subjects, I bet it was difficult to focus your shots and still get the composition that you wanted?

I agree, when I went to a fashion show here, it was difficult to capture a good photo. But these two you selected are great. The first photo you captured the model as she was walking (that must not be easy as they walk quite fast! ) wish I had her legs. second photo I like that the audience was captured in the background.

I freak out a little bit whenever I'm in a dark place and I am trying to take photos. I don't like using the flash and I am still figuring out the settings on my DSLR.

The Nikon's sure have great low light ability, which is the reason why I switched over from the dark side ….canon!. when I went SLR digital…..

I think you are being a bit harsh on yourself, the pictures are great.

If you are finding that some of your other shots have gone a bit orange when you crank up the ISO (or is that down) you can try playing around with the White Balance, set the WB on a cool setting which should get the shot back to a more natural colour.

One thing to remember there is no such thing as the perfect I often find the shot that other people like are not necessary the ones that I rate. Once you put your pictures out there wave goodbye to artistic control….

I'm so terrible at figuring out ISO and all that fun stuff on cameras.. plus I hate it when certain modes don't seem to flow as easy as they should for when you're taking something that should work in that mode! Definitely share your settings. :) But these pictures still look really good. <33

Love both pictures for different reasons. The second one has a great sense of contrast - the orange against the dark audience. Would love to paint the backdrop black/white and leave the girl in colour..

Hey Krystal, just a little advice if i may. I had the same trouble with my live music pics so i bought a new lens with low aperture (50mm,f1.8) for when it gets really dark, you can pick a nikon one up for about £100. Next time use aperture mode and put it on the lowest setting if your using a zoom, set it to about 3.5/4. set the metering mode to either center weighted or spot, so the camera takes a light reading off the person instead of an average for the whole room. finally gradually increase the iso until the shutter speed is quick enough and your pics sharp.
If you are using a zoom, in aperture mode the aperture number will increase on your screen the more you zoom, thats what the 3.5-6.5 etc value means on the lens, the wider thr angle the more light it can let in on most zoom lenses.
Hope this helps, taking low light pics took me quite a while to master.
